PRIVATE STATIONS OF PRAGUE PNEUMATIC POST
This part of the exhibit shows the operation between the main (central) pneumatic post station, which was in the main post office building in Jindřišská street, and private stations between 1931-1945. After liberation in 1945, nationalization started and, later, the former network of private stations partly changed. Some nationalized banks and the Czech News Agency (ČTK) are still connected to the pneumatic post headquarters. Even sadder is the end of the private company "Petschek". From 15 March 1939, the building had housed, among others, the German official post office "Prague 2".
Between 1929-1931, there was a complete reconstruction in Prague and, at the same time, the largest expansion of the pneumatic network. In this period, the postal administration offered banks, authorities, and companies the opportunity to connect to the pneumatic network of all postal delivery offices anywhere. The condition was to build a private pneumatic connection from their own funds and, during operation, to pay a postal administration 40 halers for each capsule sent, regardless of the number of consignments sent. When sending a capsule from private stations, a list of various fees was announced (sheet no. 20). According to the plan from 1930-31, 15 companies are listed. All of them were connected only to the main post office "Prague 1".
Consignments delivered to these private stations cannot be positively determined; their identification is possible only on the basis of the recipient's address and urgency. Some companies stamped consignments with special time stamps at the mail room. Only Živnobanka used a line stamp "Delivered by pneumatic post".
Consignments with an additional box stamp "OD POTRUBNÍ POŠTY ZPĚT (RETURNED FROM PNEUMATIC POST)" is 100% proof that the addressee is one of the companies that had their own private pneumatic post station. This stamp was used at the pneumatic post headquarters and probably also on the ground floor of the main post office for all private stations for the following reasons:
a) a consignment did not have suitable dimensions for the capsule,
b) a solid object was inserted in the consignment,
c) a private station was closed or out of order.
These consignments were then transported by land to their destination.
Some incoming consignments to Prague, which were sent by pneumatic post to private stations, already had access to the pneumatic network from the Prague 7 post office.
Registered consignments were not transported at all, not even during the Protectorate after 1 November 1940. Exception only for No. 4.

The "Cheque Office – 6." was located in a new building on the corner of Wenceslas Square and Štěpánská street. It is not mentioned at all in the manual*. This building was connected to the main post office in Jindřišská street by an internal pneumatic line.
For envelopes that supplement interesting documents from private stations, I also use incomplete envelopes (front part).
*Literature: "Prozatímní poučení pro účastníky potrubní pošty" ("Provisional instructions for participants in the pneumatic post"), published in about 1931-1932.

Proof that "ČES.MOR.TISKAŘ.P." was not among the private stations.

Sending parcels from private stations.
There was a fee of 40 hal for each case sent to private stations. When sending a case from private stations, a list of various fees was listed. Private stations could send telegrams, express (express, air, pneumatic mail) and ordinary letters by returning the case to the main station of the pneumatic mail. In addition to the fees (for telegrams and letters), they were also subject to a special surcharge, which was recorded in the special accounts of the private stations and payments were made once a month.
a) – Telegram: 1 CZK.
b) – Letter parcel transported to another subscriber of a private station: 40 h.
c) – Letter express parcel, which is to be delivered by pneumatic mail to the railway station post office: 1 CZK
For other express parcels, which the subscriber sends via the Prague pneumatic mail network, no special surcharge is charged!
d) – Ordinary letter parcels, which are to be sent further by surface mail, are placed (regardless of the number) in specially de-
signated cases, which are immediately forwarder by internal line to the ground floor to the counter for surface delivery: 2CZK.
Note: All official shipments are paid with a stamp from a paying machine (OVS / Frankotype). Shipments that are paid with postage stamps are always of a private nature.
Private stations had to mark the urgency of express mail (express, airmail, pneumatic mail). At the central pneumatic mail, these mail items were supplemented with stickers, their own stamp "4a" and a serial number called "paginýrka". This numbering was always slightly blurred - most often in light green, sometimes red-violet, and from about 1938 also in blue-black.
1. ANGLO-ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ BANKA
Bank clerks' mistake. Airmail letter to Argentina with OVS: "APB / 5.9.38 / 17.50" is transported in a special case amon ordinary mail → central station ptp → counter for further delivery:without a stamp,
affixed airmail label and red page number "2405" and by land to the railway station: Prague 7 / 5.9.38 time 19.
Incoming stamp: Buenos Aires C.G. 11.9.938.
21.
Airmail envelope to England, without arrival stamp. Address printed with a cyclostyle, transported among ordinary items.
Error of the clerks at the mailroom? The question arises whether it was intentional (saving fees, three examples at APB!) see: sheet 22!
Sending items from private stations, c) – Each express letter (by air express and by pneumatic mail!) item that is to be delivered by pneumatic mail to the station post office: 1 CZK.
Counter for further delivery: without stamp, airmail label attached and on the other side: red pager "9223" and by land to the Prague 7 railway station post office / 22.8.38 / time 12.
Envelope opened in London by bank method – three sides.
22.
Bank clerks' mistake; the envelope is marked "Urgent !!!" and with a value on the machine (OVS) "300" i.e. 2 CZK + 1 CZK, yet it is transported in a special case among ordinary mail to the ground floor of the main post office for delivery outside Prague.
APB / 16.5.40 → central station ptp → mail sorting counter (without stamp).
At the counter only "paginýrka no. 578" and by land to the station. In Chrudim without a stamp.
23.
3. NATIONAL BANK
Bank clerks' mistake: on the envelope for the FORM (printed on the bottom left under the label) the value is set by a machine print: "350" i.e. 2.50 CZK abroad + 1 CZK by air, which is mistakenly transported in a special case among ordinary mail to the ground floor of the main post office for delivery by land.
National Bank → central station ptp → postal sorting counter: Prague 1/ 4.6.34 time 2pm,,4p".
Note: on ordinary items with,,Frankotype", another stamp was no longer placed.
At the counter, the shipment was processed: the "Form" was covered with a "By Air" label and sent by land to the railway station post office: "Prague 7-Airmail / 4.6.34 time 16h" - the stamp is on the other side.
Incoming bank stamp the next morning: "Reichsbank 5.6.34/ time 7.00"!
Note: I bought this cover at a stock exchange that was held as part of the exhibition: "Amphilex 2002" in Amsterdam on 30. 8. - 3. 9. 2002. I had doubts about this cover because it did not have a design that would correspond to the operation of private stations. I added it to my collection and only when I obtained the manual (Provisional instructions for participants in the pneumatic mail) did I realize that it was a mistake made by bank officials and so it has its place here, after many years, on the sheet.
This exhibition was the European premiere of single-frame exhibits, where I exhibited this collection for the first time: "Private Stations of the Prague pneumatic Post". The commissioner for the Czech Republic was Miroslav Langhammer, who drew my attention to this innovation in the spring of 2002. He asked me if I would create an exhibit in my collections on the 12th sheet . I immediately knew that it would be this part of the "Prague Pneumatic Post". Other exhibitions were only on the 16th of sheet. At the world exhibition "Bangkok 2003" this exhibit won gold. Thank you Miroslav!
24.
4. PETSCHEK
Envelope marked with its own line stamp "Pneumatic Post" and a special time stamp "12.35". Part of the front side of the form (20h) and with a fee for pneumatic post (40h). Pay machine imprint: "060 Petschek / Prague 1 / 24.8.34 → Pneumatic station (it is on the missing back side).
At the mailroom, a mistake by bank officials: an urgent private postcard is transported in a special case among ordinary mail to the ground floor of the main post office for delivery by land:
Petschek → central station ptp → postal sorting counter: "Prague 1 /12.4.1938 4b time 9h". Then transferred to the counter with an internal line: Prague 1 / 1c time 9h → pneumatic central "4146" and further to → Prague 14 / time 10h.
25.
After March 15, 1939, the building also housed, among other things, the German service post office "Prague 2". What were the operating rules between the main post office and the "Petschek Palace"? They certainly did not pay 40 hal. when receiving a case or when sending parcels to the main post office. The operation on this private line had to be the same as between post offices. This means that after November 1, 1940, registered parcels could also be transported by pneumatic mail.
Registered envelope: Deutsche Dienstpost B.u.M. Prag 2/09.8.44 - 11am → Prague 1 (only one postmark and that before delivery: 3pm). This philatelic consignment proves sending by a former private pneumatic line, which was paid for with German surcharge stamps in the value of 48 Pfg. – (rate 1:10 i.e. 4.80K).
26.
8. ŠKODA
,,JOINT STOCK COMPANY - FORMERLY ŠKODA PLANT IN PILSEN - GENERAL AND SALES DIRECTORATE PRAGUE" - the print is on the envelope at the top left under the stamps: 1 CZK and 2.50 CZK (total 3.50 CZK: heavier letter 1.10 CZK, ptp 40h, express 2 CZK), on the right there is a delivery stamp 50h (fee for delivery to the addressee: ,,in your own hands"), the address is written in red pencil: Pneumatic mail - Express. A private company envelope, properly processed and transported by a private line on 4.4.1938 / at 9 am:
private shipment / a.s. Škodavy závody → pneumatic station → on the other side: Prague 73 / 10am.
At the central station of the pneumatic mail (ptp), the stamps were stamped "Prague 4a", stickers were affixed, the shipment was numbered with a page number "875" and the delivery stamp was cancelled by cuts, because these stamps can only be on registered shipments.

At the central pneumatic post station, labels were attached to both envelopes, stamped ,,Prague / 4a,, and sent to the counters for delivery.
← Both envelopes on the previous sheet.
For items delivered within the main post office area, pneumatic mail fees are completely unnecessary. The item is already delivered as normal, on the next regular route.

Živnobanka → central pneumatic post office "Prague 4a" / 2.1.39 time 11 → on the other side Prague 47 / 2.1.39 time 12. Stamps were stamped at the central ptp station and stickers were attached, under which there are line stamps of Živnobanka.
Total – number of private stations.
The manual "Provisional Instructions for Pneumatic Post Participants" lists 15 participants. It does not list "Cheque Office" (yes on the map), but "Postal Savings Bank" (this entity is in Part II on Frame I - with its own stamp). If it were among the participants, the stamps would be invalidated by the pneumatic central station with the stamp "Prague 4a". Both institutions were located in the same building as the telegraph station, on the corner of Wenceslas Square and Štěpánská Street (internal line to the main post office).
On the back of the advertising telegram No. 7 (date of printing: 1933) there are 14 private stations. If we omit "Českomoravský tiskařský podnik" (see leaflet No. 2) and "Šekový úřad" with "Poštovní spořitelna", we get a total of 13 private station participants. One private station is missing from the set (No. 10 - see title page).
30.

Envelopes without markings (banks, businesses, offices) that were transported by private line can be recognized if the stamps are invalidated by the pneumatic mail central stamp: Prague,,4a".
